While preparing this presentation, I revisited my assumption about the relationship between population and per capita consumption.

While I knew of no direct estimates of early ecological footprint by others, I could find estimates of life expectancy, which, together with the logarithmic relationship between it and the footprint, could be used to calculate the footprint for historical population values which others had also estimated.

The red dots in this graph are estimates of life expectancy that I found. Those until 1950 are from the book A Concise History of World Population.
